I signed up about this time of the year actually.

The most important thing is to avoid injury. I had been running with pain on-and-off for most of the time since I started running 4 years ago. This year I signed up for the full marathon, so I got a personal trainer to help me with strength training exercises and planning my training runs. It has made a big difference so far (I started training in November but just started getting serious in the last few weeks).

My advice: do not try and run through pain. It only gets worse. Better to cut back your training and get 100% recovered. There was no better feeling in the world than running those 10 mile training runs around the lakeshore and arboretum--and then of course the actual half marathon itself.joejoezznoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9169905935681208947.post-49990729947486152142010-01-14T17:02:26.904-08:002010-01-14T17:02:26.904-08:00Well? I'm getting quite a bit of advice from co-workers who have run many marathons and even completed IronMan a few times. They all say "slow and steady wins the race." This will be my mantra. For now it's just being able to run 3 miles without pasing out. Good luck and keep us posted.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17617382578419038429noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9169905935681208947.post-63591048761818334382010-01-14T13:39:44.906-08:002010-01-14T13:39:44.906-08:00Congratulations on taking the plunge!
