Friday Fav's

It's Friday, people! I've decided to blog about something Friday-fun and interactive...running music!
I am a fan of the iPod and love to run while listening to some quality tunes. Here are a few that keep me going...

1. "It's Amazing" by Jem - the lyrics say it all. "It's amazing, all that you can do. It's amazing, makes my heart sing. Now it's up to you."

2. "Pump It" by the Black Eyed Peas - for when you feel like you don't have anything left.

3. "Shut Up and Let Me Go" by the Ting Tings - lots of energy and a little attitude!

4. "Make Yourself" by Incubus - this one is great for "angry running" and a real kick in the pants.

5. Anything Lady Gaga - makes me wanna dance and you can't help but sing along

Honorable mentions - "Ready to Run" by the Dixie Chicks (shout out to Kari for reminding me that this is obviously a perfect running song!) and "Viva la Vida" by Coldplay. Any opportunity to listen to Coldplay is a good one.

Which songs get YOU going? I'm always looking to expand my playlist!

(Sidenote: Running at night makes me a Nervous-Nelly, but be safe any time of day when you're running with earphones in! Keep the volume soft enough that you can hear cars and people around you.)

  1. There are so many. . .

    Try "The Remedy"

  2. I definitely think that finding the "right" music that motivates you can help on a run. I also think that matching the bpm (beats per minute) to your pace can also be very helpful. I've put a few of my favorites w/ bpms below and I hope you'll check out the 4 different playlists I've put together specifically for running (esp for marathons). There is over 25 hrs of running music w/ carefully selected songs that are inspirational, about running, or at least are fun w/ great beat (no "19th Nervous Breakdown", "Loser", "Blister in the Sun", etc.) It's focused on indie/alternative/classic rock, and power-pop but w/ several R&B, Hip Hop, even country-rock mixed in. Check it out at

Good luck w/ your marathon journey and enjoy the music along the way!

    Some favs:

Tick Tick Boom - The Hives (137)
    Hey Ya! - Outcast (160)
Lloyd, I'm Ready To Be Heartbroken - Camera Obscura (145)
The Way We Get By - Spoon (152)
    Take a Minute - K'naan (156)
Niagara Falls - Harlem Shakes (159)
Salute Your Solution - Raconteurs (165)
    Come Together - Beatles (167)
    Australia - The Shins (171)
Black and White Town - Doves (173)
    Paper Planes - M.I.A. (173)
Such Great Heights - The Postal Service (175)
Keep Your Head - The Ting Tings (156)

  3. I am going to have to add some of these songs (from both lists) to my IPOD. I like to mix it up, adding some faster songs to help with interval training and then some slower songs to help with my slower pace at the end of the run.

  4. No one's mentioned PodRunner yet? It's available as a podcast on iTunes or as individual downloads. I prefer the 180bpm mixes.
